Swedish Vallhunds are an ancient breed credited as being the viking dogs. Their original function is as a multi-purpose farm dog. They are watch dogs and multi herders. Vallhunds are best known for droving cattle but are very effcient at herding most things including sheep, other dogs and humans.
Vallhunds like to keep their 'pack' together and are happiest when they know where everyone is.

Vallhunds can be found all over the world but remain an endangered species and are listed as such in Sweden.

Swedish Vallhunds are fun to live with and great to travel with. They need reasonable amounts of exercize and brain stimulation. They are a highly intelligent breed who will loyally work with you and happily lie down when you are watching TV.

Vallhunds will let you know if there is something unusual happening or there is someone at the door!

Although Eriksfjord Swedish Vallhunds have had considerable success in the showring both in the UK and Ireland they are first and foremost our beloved pets.

In 2011 the 'Eriksfjord' puppy pack won a national competition run by The Kennel Club for Assured Breeders. The pack forms part of the package for owners of Eriksfjord puppies. Puppies also come with a lifetime's support & advice, food, insurance, collar, lead, bowl and toy.

Swedish Vallhunds are precious and therefore if you are interested in having a puppy we will ask you to complete a questionnaire and come and visit the vallhunds at home so they can let us know whether you will make suitable owners.

ABOUT

The 'Erikfjord' kennel name was granted by the Kennel Club in 2000. Eriksfjord was home to 'Erik the Red'  a well known viking. My first Vallhund was called Erik so every time a puppy is born here his legacy is continued. Erik came to live with me in 1998 after I met and adopted him from the local RSPCA.
